Welcome to the Hawaii Athletic Trainers' Association!

The mission of the Hawaii Athletic Trainers’ Association is to enhance the quality of health care provided by its members and to advance the athletic training profession.

In June, HMSA recognized 20 outstanding high school graduates who each received $5,000 HMSA Kaimana Scholarships, along with nine high schools that took home HMSA Kaimana Awards and $1,500 each. Mahalo to all the athletic trainers who played a role in the scholarship recipients’ success. It takes a village!

The Hawai`i Athletic Trainers’ Association Foundation sponsors three scholarships to support students
from different levels (i.e. Graduate, Undergraduate, and high school levels). Each recipient receives a
$1000 monetary award and a plaque. These scholarship awards are given to continue promoting the
education and profession of athletic training and to recognize outstanding students who represent the future of the Athletic Training profession.

Come and join us for our first ever HATA Fun Run on March 30, 2025. The mission of HATA is to enhance the quality of health care provided by its members and to advance the athletic training profession here in State of Hawaii. This event will help raise funds for future events and scholarships.

June 1-7 each year is National CPR AND AED Awareness Week, spotlighting how lives can be saved if more Americans know CPR and how to use an AED. American Heart Association’s Campaign reinforces these skills but also places importance on the willingness of bystander to act in a cardiac arrest emergency. ❤️

Thank you so much to all the student who participated in this year’s HATA Student workshop held at Nanakuli High & intermediate school. We started out the day with a yoga session led by Alexe Navarro (Kailua High School.) Our speakers included Diamond Miller (HCAMP), Dr. Kiyomi Goto (Queens Sports Medicine), Dr. Kaori Tamura (UH-Manoa) and UH Graduate students Gianna Ramiscal & Cheyenne Fuertes.
Lastly thank you to all the volunteers who dedicated their time in helping to make this workshop a success!

Keep on the lookout for next year’s workshop which will be held possibly at Waipahu High School.

• Saturday 6/8: Softball at Jefferson Elementary, Track and Field at Kaiser HS, Power Lifting at UH Manoa, Swimming at UH Duke Kahanamoku Pool, Victory Dance at UH Manoa
• Sunday 6/9: Track and Field at Kaiser HS, Power Lifting at UH Manoa, Swimming at UH Duke Kahanamoku Pool.

•Plenty of Food, Snacks, and Drinks will be provided

Viva Las Vegas! Day 2 of the 2024 AMCS was filled with lots of learning and networking! After a long day of sessions, district and state meetings, HATA members gathered at the J. Bar Golf & Lounge for good eats and good fun!

HATA members kicked off this year’s FWATA AMCS at the Paul Schecter Memorial Golf Tournament. It was the perfect day for golf and fellowship at Desert Pines Golf Club. Day 1 in the books! Looking forward to tomorrow!

Mahalo Nui Loa for your overwhelming support for the Maui athletes affected by the recent wildfires to our island home. We are beyond grateful. Through your sharing and donations, we have reached our initial goal of $10,000 and have already begun to use that to benefit affected athletes directly. We are keeping our fundraising going and with thanks and humility have increased our goal to $20,000. Athletics on the island have officially re-started and more requests from athletes and families are coming in. We are also thrilled to hear that Lahainaluna, whose student body was most directly affected by the fires, will more than likely be able to participate in league competition this year! Our goal remains the same, to be able to remove barriers to participation for these students to be able to compete and regain some sense of normalcy and community within these challenging times. We cannot thank you enough. #MauiStrong

Our hearts are with all of Maui, and for those able to help, please consider donating to the student-athletes and families of the Maui Interscholastic League (MIL). We are very grateful to hear that the Maui ATs are safe from harm, but there is a tough road ahead for all. Mahalo to KS-Maui AT Erin Barnett for creating the gofundme page. It’s great to be back! The HATA Athletic Training Student Aide Workshop returned and it was a blast!

We were extremely fortunate to have speakers come in and present to the aspiring athletic trainers from Oahu high schools. Much mahalo to Andrew Takata of @HNLmovement, Dana Fong-Reyes of @coresportshawaii and Dr. Lafe Harris of Queens Sports Medicine. The students learned a lot and enjoyed the engagement!

Also, a BIG shoutout to @MoanaluaAthletics for hosting us in your awesome gym and for the prize donations!

Last but not least, the workshop would not have been a success without the help of our volunteers. Thank you all so much for the time you put in to the future generations of athletic trainers in Hawaii. Let’s run it back again next year and see if we can get our neighbor islands in on the fun! 🤙🏼
